South African Tourism (SA Tourism) met with industry players in Qatar last week as part of its strategy to promote South Africa as a destination to Qatari citizens and residents.

In collaboration with Qatar Airways and Brand South Africa, over 50 frontline sales staff and consultants received training in Doha to improve their understanding of South Africa’s tourism offerings.

“The engagement sessions in Doha were extremely valuable and gave us a great opportunity to market South Africa to a growing market,” said Neliswa Nkani, SA Tourism’s Hub Head for the MEISEA region. “We look forward to working closer with all our partners in Qatar, so that we can increase arrivals to South Africa and work towards the 2030 goal of achieving 21 million international visitors to our country.”

Qatar is one of seven country’s that will have visas waived for entry in South Africa, following an announcement by the Department of Home Affairs in July.

Qatar airways also recently announced the addition of new flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively.
