The Protection of Personal Information Act 3 of 2013 signed by the President in November 2013 promotes the protection of personal information being processed by public and private bodies.

The Act recognizes the individual’s right to privacy, which includes the right to protect against the unlawful collection, retention, dissemination and use of personal information.

The effective date has not yet been published but companies will be expected to be compliant one year after this date.

BARSA is working towards providing its members with general guidelines which will be available before the end of June 2014.
